Member’s Queries

The North of Ireland Family History Society (NIFHS) now includes on its website and with its e-Newsletter a list of Queries submitted by Members. Previously the list was published in the North Irish Roots journal which was sent out every six months. The change makes recently submitted Queries visible to readers much sooner than before.

The aim of the list is to encourage responses from other people, whether Members or not, who may be interested in the same families and may be able to help with the Query. We arrange the contact with Members.

Any Member wishing to have his or her Query included on this page and in the next edition of the e-Newsletter is invited to submit a Member’s Profile Form.

In compliance with GDPR law, the Society does not publish or disclose member’s details.

To respond to a Member who has submitted a Query shown in the Queries List below:
Send an email to MembersInterests@nifhs.org using the following format:

• the membership number shown against the Query • your membership number (if any) • the surname of interest

We will check that the member who submitted the Query is still with the Society and if so will forward to them your request.
Any response by the member is made directly to you, the seeker, not to the Society.

BAIN	Samuel Bain per Y-DNA is my M.CRA and 2^nd great grandfather. He left Ireland in 1832-1834. He was a tailor and married Jane Bone of Cornwall in 1836. They lived on Jarvis St, Toronto until about 1849 when they bought land in Scott Township. Siblings in birth order: James, George, Samuel, William, Elizabeth & Mary. Any information appreciated	A5361
BLACK/ MCFAUL	James and Mary McFaul Black were the parents of Neal Black. He arrived in East Port, Maine in 1828. In 1834 he was married to Isabella Linton. When they had their first child in Washington County, Maine. Her father is listed as John Linton born in Ireland, who was Isabella’s mother?	B3314
BOYD/ MCCOLLUM	Help required in finding details for the Boyd/McCollum families from Armoy. In particular, John Boyd (b c 1806) who married Mary McCollum (b c 1809) – their son Samuel Ferguson Boyd (b1845) gave his place of birth as Armoy. The family emigrated to Illinois in 1859. BROWN/ KELSIE/ NICOL/ FISHER	John Brown married Marianne Kelsie 11.11.1855 in Maghera, Andrew Nicol married Jane Fisher 09.01.1866 in Desertmartin. Any information on these people and their ancestors would be welcome. Also, James Wilson born c1788 in Co. Down married Helen McClatchie 22.1.1814 in Darvel, Scotland – again any information would be welcome.	A5488

CROWE/ PRINGLE/ HOGG	Looking for any information on George Crowe (1620-1860) in The Macosquin area, Francis Crowe died 1712 from Tamlaghtard & William Crowe (1620-1785) from Desertlyn area. Pringle from Ballynahone, Caledon, Ballygawley area from 1611 upwards. Also researching Hogg from Macosquin area. Any details appreciated	B3377

DUNCAN/ HEMPHILL/ MCGEE	Isabella Jane Hemphill b.9.3.1872 Meaghy, Newtownstewart, d. 1966. Father Joseph Hemphill c1847-1923 (carpenter). Mother Rebecca Jane McGee c1851-1937. Isabella married William Duncan (Gamekeeper, Baronscourt Estate) 4.11.1890, Drumclamph, Co Tyrone. Issue: – William, James, John, Rebecca Jane, Margaret, Martha, Isabella, Matilda, Andrew & Lettoria. FERGUSON	James Ferguson was born about 1861 in Belfast and married 3 times, 1^st Annie ? but died shortly after marriage 2^nd Annie Logan married 19.12.1883 – she was abandoned with children 3^rd Annie McMinn with whom he had 4 children. He moved to Larne where he either owned or managed an hotel perhaps for Henry McNeill. Help is needed with further research on this ‘grandfather’.	B2916
FORSTER	Archibald Forster c1823 – 1888 Co Fermanagh, died Co Cavan married Isabella Murphy c 1819-1904 in 1846 at Galloon, Co Fermanagh. Known children: – (1) Archibald c1853-1914 who married Fanny Sadlier in 1876 – 9 children (2) Isabella c1857-1914 (died Castleblaney) married Samuel Corbett in 1877 Co Cavan- children William c1880, Samuel 1883, Thomas William 1887, Robert 1889 & Mary Jane 1893 – All born Ballyhaise, Co Cavan, (3) Mary Jane1861-1933 (died Enniskillen) married George Bell in 1886 at Cloverhill, Co Cavan – no children. George was Stationmaster at Bundoran junction, Co Tyrone. Seeking information about forsters in Co. Fermanagh	B1628
GETTY/ MCGEEHAN/MCMICHAEL	Looking for details of father of Daniel McMichael b1849 in Coleraine (not Scotland). Peter McGeehan b1796 in Derry (showing in 1861 census Hamilton). William Getty 1850-1917 – his daughter Anna Eliza born 1886 and died 1900 in Ballyoglagh – where was she born? Son William E Getty’s will states he was in Bushmills but no records.	B2938

MULLEN/ PATTERSON	Searching for parents of William Mullen born c1849 and his wife Jane Patterson born c1847. Both residents of Killowen, they had 12 children, 6 of whom were born Killowen St, Killowen. The other 6 were born in Drogheda and Malt St, Belfast. Any details would be appreciated.	B3374
